Why is inositol so expensive

Therapeutic uses of myo-inositol In Prof. Chiu , a researcher at the University of Hong Kong, was one of the first to demonstrate the efficacy of the myo-inositol treatment in women seeking pregnancy, strengthening the correlation between the presence of myo-inositol and fertility. Today, myo-inositol represents a safe and effective therapy that finds therapeutic application for various ailments and pathologies: In PCOS , the administration of myo-inositol resulted in the remission of symptoms and the reduction of male hormones secretion; but also the regulation of cholesterol levels, a more efficient breakdown of fats with a consequent decrease in appetite and weight.

Also read: Myo-inositol and polycystic ovary syndrome As regard male infertility , inositol has improved, according to several studies, motility and sperm count, while it improves the oocyte and embryonic quality in women. Again, myo-inositol induces an increase in the sensitivity of the serotonin receptor, also known as the good mood hormone, with benefits on anxiety disorders.

The benefits of inositol have been also investigated as regard the diabetes and the prevention of metabolic syndrome. D-chiro-inositol The use of D-chiro-inositol alone to treat PCOS women dates back to the late s by a group of American researchers.

In a well-known study, Nestler reported innovative results on the use of d-chiro-inositol for the treatment of PCOS. He showed that with the use of 1.

Unfortunately, these apparently surprising results were not reconfirmed in subsequent studies. A crucial difference compared to the first clinical trials concerned precisely the dosages of D-chiro inositol, increased to 2. These results led to an interruption of the trials.

As anticipated, d-chiro-inositol is partially converted by Myo through epimerase, an insulin-sensitive enzyme. Myo-inositol is instead the most abundant. But, in compromised health conditions such as PCOS, the situation changes. In fact, in PCOS women the activity of the epimerase enzyme is increased: this induces a substantial reduction of Myo and D-chiro ratio at intraovarian level, because there is an enhanced conversion of myo to d-chiro due to the excessive levels of circulating insulin.

This phenomenon, better known as the ovarian paradox , arises from an intuition, subsequently demonstrated through experimental data: since the ovary is never insulin resistant and that the activity of epimerase mediated by insulin was more understood in women PCOS, causing a myo-inositol deficiency and therefore a reduced oocyte quality [3].

However, the role of d-chiro in reducing insulin levels remains irrefutable. But the question is: which is the optimal dosage to take advantage of the d-chiro-inositol efficacy without compromising the ovarian functionality? To answer this question, we try to summarize some fundamental assumptions, reaffirmed in a review published recently in one of the most authoritative endocrinology journals in the world, Cell Press [4]. Therefore, Myo-inositol plays a crucial role in FSH signaling, oocyte maturation and embryonic development [4].

Freshly scented with lemon essential oil. Great Combinations. Vitamin D3 iu, Super Strength 4. Plus high strength magnesium and chromium. By Anonymous , 13 Oct Even when you add it to your basket on checkout it still comes to the same price as 2 singles. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Value for money:. How much has this product helped you? By Julia , 12 Oct I've been using this product for a few years to help regulate my menstrual cycle due to PCOS and it's worked well for me.

How Is That A Saving". By Jen , 07 Sep Thank you for taking the time to leave a reply. By Anonymous , 03 Sep I have been using for 3 weeks and it seems to be working.

It makes me feel calm and helps me sleep. I take in the evening. Feel less stiff and achy too. I really like that it doesn''t contain any additions at all - just pure Inositol. I need to finish the g to really know. Only criticism is packaging - tub is twice the size it needs to be and the scoop is so tiny i need to add 8 of them for a normal daily dose! I am not silly I know what g of powder looks like.

Also be great, now I have the tub, for the next lot to be a refill in a bag that i can decant into the tub I have.

At Nature's Best, we try very hard to be as green as possible in every area of our business, therefore, as I'm sure you are aware, all of our pots and most of our packaging is recyclable. To minimise the cost to the business and therefore to our customers, we have a small range of standard size pots and product is packed into the most appropriate size pack. Also, I think it is safe with metformin but you should just double check with your doctor.

Tarryn, I was wondering if Inositol will also help with acne. Also My hair has been falling out, do you know of anything I can take along with Inositiol, folic acid, and omegas that will make my hair grow back thicker and healthier?

Is it ok to take all these supplements daily? It is definitely okay to take all of your supplements daily. The inositol should help with acne. Also, make sure that you have cut dairy out of your diet as that should also help.

Thyroid issues can also cause hair loss so make sure you have your thyroid levels checked. Once your testosterone is more under control, you should see an improvement in all of your PCOS symptoms, including hair loss. Do you know if D-chiro-inositol is safe to take once you become pregnant or should it be stopped? Did you take it during your pregnancy? Inositol can help prevent miscarriage in the first trimester but can cause early labour later on. I did take inositol in my first trimester, but at a lower dose.

I have stopped it completely now and just take my ante natal supplements. I am currently taking prenatal vitamins and would like to try the Inosital powder.

My prenatal vitamins say that I am taking:. I would just add Inositol to it. Okay thanks! To be honest, I think diet and exercise is a tried and tested way of managing PCOS so I would personally stick with that. Instead of the one off amazon an how meny would I have to take thanks x. The mg of Choline and Inositol actually only has mg of Inositol. All of the research is based on 4g Inositol per day so you would need to take 16 tablets per day.

This why I prefer the powder as you can just take 1 flat teaspoon in some water morning and evening to get your 4g. Inositol should definitely be taken by women with lean PCOS. We tend to have a shortage of Inositol anyway and it should help to improve your glucose metabolism, whether you are overweight or not. Thank you soooo much for sharing your story and for sharing this information with everybody.

I just ordered my inositol and I am excited to use it but I have some questions that I hope to find answers to, as I searched everywhere with no luck:. The reason I am asking these question is because I had the worst experience with metformin. I tried everything and did lifestyle and diet changes and that helped. Now my cycle is regular but quite long , but I am still struggling with acne and unwanted hair. I really hope somebody can help answering my questions. Thank you, I really appreciate your help.

The thing with PCOS is that researchers have found that there is something inherently wrong with the cells that produce insulin in women with PCOS we tend to release too much insulin in response to carbs.

Also, our ovaries tend to be too sensitive to insulin, producing too much testosterone. Basically, no medication is going to fix this as it is part of our make up, unfortunately. So, Inositol is a supplement to be take for the long term. Interestingly, it has been shown to lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS so you may want to consider taking it into your first trimester. As soon as you stop eating well, exercising and taking supplements, your symptoms will probably come back with a vengeance.

So think of all of this as a lifestyle change and not just a temporary remedy. Just something to think about. Can you tell me please does myo inostiol regulate the period and can i tae this whole of my life,i take the BCP but when i leave my period is irregular i have one period for 5 months.. Inositol helps to regulate your glucose metabolism which will help to lower your testosterone levels and therefore regulate your cycle.

It can be taken for as long as you want to. It may not give you a completely regular cycle like birth control but it will help. I really have Increased Symptoms for this , I ve been taking inositol with birth controll pills about 1 month..

Of birthcontroll pill for 6 months continously.. Should I lose weight? Also, hair growth is the symptom that takes the longest to improve so hang in there! Many thanks. Definitely, Mel. It will help to manage your insulin and testosterone levels and can bring about a return of spontaneous ovulation. If your Vitamin B complex had 4g of Inositol then it will be fine to just take the Complex. I am on 8th month of pregnancy, I am diagonised with gaestation dibetities.

Could you please advise if it is safe to take Myo-Inositol during last timester of pregnancy. My 31 weeks of pregnancy going on. I would check with your doctor or midwife.

There is some research that Inositol can protect your baby from the effects of high blood sugars. But, it has also been shown to induce labour in high doses so I think you should get some guidance on how much is safe to take.

I have been trying to coceive for 2. I want to do something different and came across your site. Do you think it is ok to take inositol with thyroxine. I also take a mutlivit with 4oomcg folic acid — do you think that is ok or shall I take a separate tablet for folic acid.

Thanks for your help Catriona. I came across your website when researching to find updated information on PCOS. My husband and I were married in and tried to conceive for years. Late I decided to talk to a fertility specialist and went through once cycle of IVF treatment and it worked!

We were blessed with our son in April I read about what you posted on Pregnitude and other ladies comments on how well it worked for them. For a long time I felt so alone in having PCOS but I realized that I am not alone but just part of a special group of women who are a little different.

Hi Tarryn, I am so thankful to have found your website! I am 30 yrs old and was diagnosed about 10 yrs ago. After many side effects from the usual meds and frustration with trying to lose weight and battle Hirsutism, I had sort of given up on trying to manage my PCOS stupid, I know. Now, 10 years and over 60 pounds later, I am desperate to get my life back!

They just seem more convenient. One more thing : …. I recently started taking Garcinia Cambogia supplements to lose weight and was curious if you are familiar with or have any insights into taking it with PCOS?

Thanks again for such a great site! Thank you for this post Tarryn, I purchased the inositol powder and will be taking it in the morning and evening. Do you know if it needs to be taken on an empty stomach for better results? I take it right after eating breakfast and dinner but I wonder if I should have it before I eat. Hello, I just ordered my first box of Pregnitude, and I was wondering — do you take it before eating?

I am very hopeful about pregnitude and hope to get off the Birth control and start working on trying to have a baby again.. No ovulation and my body was attacked by PCOS. I have been struggling for the past two years with hormones and finally started to get a hold on them, though not completely. I am not at a 28 day cycle by any means, but each cycle gets a little bit shorter. It has improved my acne and ovulation cycle. My doctor also recommended N-Acetyl Cysteine…anyone know a whole lot about that???

I definitely do not do dairy for the reasons you stated on your article. I still struggle with storing fat in my lower abdominal area though. I work out five days a week, and eat well and still have issues with this. This is so foreign to me! Sounds like you have made some really good progress in getting your symptoms under control. The belly fat is a big issue for me too and is a pain to lose one of the gripes with PCOS.

I have heard of NAC but not tried it myself. Sounds like it might be worth a go, though! Will i not be able to find it in a local drug store? Hello I would like to ask you? Hi everyone, ok I need some major advice… I started taking the inositol powder on April 1. I have been taking it twice a day. Last Wednesday I started having brown discharge with pink. Every day since its been brownish discharge.

Today I have been having the discharge but it almost is hunky as in ovulation. Could this just be things starting to move down there or could this be ovulation? I definitely feel like period, bloated etc… But not sure what to think… help!

Hi tarryn i really want to upgrade but i cant as money is required. N i cant pay the amount. I really want your help as im also suffering from pcos.

I also want my meal plans and help in what to do. Im only 16 years n my height is 5. Hi Tarryn! It has stolen my feminism. It is literally ruining my life because I was diagnosed with depression and used to have multiple panic attacks, and eating disorder. I took BCP for a year and yet there was no significant improvement on my face.

I was still breaking out like crazy and my face now looks like a war zone. I do so much to lose weight, limit my calorie intake, stuff myself with protein, workout my ass off and within 3 months, I only see a little result by losing hardly 6lbs.

I heard spironolactone was very helpful in curing acne. Have you ever tried it? You can tell right? Please help me! So if I am taking the Jarrows brand, do i need to take 1.

Or am I missing something? Sorry, confused…. I am ordering some today. I will give you an update later. I am excited to try something new. I want to try to manage my PCOS with diet, exercise and supplements. I purchased the Jarrows Inositol. I also try to watch my carbs and workout but I usually gain weight if I cheat. This is giving me hope.

I am already taking Yasmin, high strength Vitamin B complex, Chromium and spriulina. Would you suggest I continue taking all these supplements in addition to the folic acid and inositol?

I am keen to finally shift the excess weight 2stone. I have just read about the inositol and looked at the amazon site however you have mentioned to take it with folic acid would that be in form of tablets? I have nto actually taken any sort of supplements for my PCS and cant wait to start. Tablet form is fine. You can either get mcg and take 1 per day or 2mcg and take 2 per day.

Nazia are you from india? I am also serching Inositol in india. Thank you. I just ordered the Jarrow Formulas Inositol Powder and was wondering how much folic acid should be taken in addition with this? I was wondering where would I be able to get this Inositol? Also make sure that you take it with Folic Acid, even if you are not trying to conceive. Many lose weight soon after taking it and it should start to improve your glucose metabolism almost immediately.

Hirsutism takes about 6 months to start seeing improvements. So you may want to take just 1 folic acid per day with 4g Inositol. Thanks for all ur help and support just wanted to ask about metformin and inositol. My concern is weight loss so would like to know if you have pcos would metformin be good or inositol to take for weight loss or are they the same if not what are the differences between them thank you very much.

Thanks for your question. One of the women who read this blog reported losing 25lb in 1 month by taking Inositol. So, to answer your question, Inositol has been shown to improve PCOS symptoms without many of the side effects of Metformin. Your doctor would be able to give you some more specifics and guide you as to what would work best for you, in light of your blood tests and medical history.

Can you suggest a brand of inositol to take. I was looking on iherb. I bought the Jarrow powder Inositol from Amazon. It seems the most cost effective and I got free delivery.

I would prefer to take it in tablet form if possible. Most seem to be available in mg though, is the daily recommended intake 4g? You can take the tablets but to take 4g a day, you would need to take 8 capsules per day. I do found the powder less expensive to be honest. Hi Guys I am new also and i am wondering if having the marina in for really bad symptoms with my periods will effect me taking the inositol?

I am not looking to get pregnant just make my symptoms better. I have two children already and my symptoms got worse after my second baby. My weight is the biggest problem for me i just cant seem to loose it!! Thanks for the question. As far as I know there are few contra-indications for taking Inositol so it should be fine. It may well help you manage your general PCOS symptoms. I was thrilled when I came across your website as it helps to know there are other things to try.

The first thing to note is that studies were done using 4g of inositol per day, plus folic acid, so you may want to consider increasing your dose. All of the current research uses the combination of inositol and folic acid so it may be safer to take the folic acid anyway. Ok thanks Tarryn this info was very helpful!!! I will be sure to go out and get the other vitamins!!!!

But I have been really confused as to which form of inositol I should be taking to achieve a successful pregnancy, and how. So please tell me your opinion on what form and how I should take it regarding combining it with another supplement or what. Thanks kindly, Dre Cluse. D-chiro-inositol is another form of myo-inositol that the body can produce from myo-inositol.

Research shows that both myo-inositol and D-chiro-inositol have similar effects on PCOS but D-chiro-inositol is taken at a lower dose to be effective. D-chiro does tend to be more expensive though. So to answer you question, the inositol that you have is myo-inositol and should be helpful in increasing your fertility.

Hi Tarryn, Thanks for this info. I always suspected that something was wrong but my doctors never bothered to test me,even though for 5 years prior to getting pregnant with my son I expressed my concerns.

My biggist issue is weight loss, it all goes straight to my abdomen. Thank you again for being a voice for the rest of us. Thanks so much for your comment and it is a real pleasure to be a voice of women with PCOS. I love connecting with women like you!
